Felted Acorns DIY

Updated: Oct 21, 2021

This is one of the easiest crafts I've ever done, and it turns out super cute! It's easily adapted for fall and winter just by using different color roving.

Supplies Needed

-wool roving in desired color (most local yarn shops carry felting wool)

-acorn tops (I found mine on a walk)

-a felting needle (I bought mine on amazon, but local yarn shops also tend to carry them)

-felting multi needle tool (optional will speed up crafting time I got mine at Michaels)

-sponge or foam pad so your not stabbing yourself

-a hot glue gun and glue for it

Step One

Take a small handful of roving, and fluff it so you can't see any individual yarn strands.

Step Two

Tie the wool in a loose knot to make a sphere.

Step Three

Stab wool with a felting needle until the top is rounded leaving the bottom end loose to shape.

Step Four

Shape bottom end into lower half of the acorn. Set shape by stabbing a circle around the lower and smaller ball.

Step Five

Once you've reached your desired shape look for imperfections or indents in your shape from the knot made in the beginning. I try to fill these in using the top part of the knot but sometimes it doesn't work and that can still be fixed.

Step Six: optional (use when there are holes in shape)

I had a hole in the side of this one so I filled it in with a bit of fluffed roving. Then I blended the edges in to follow the rest of the shape.

Step Seven

Find an acorn top to fit the big side of your tear drop shape. Hot glue the acorn top to the wool.

Finished
