As Valentine's day quickly approaches it's time to start thinking of gifts for your partner, friends or family. I try to avoid spending money on Valentine's Day for a variety of reasons. Whether you are trying to save money this year or just want your gift to be extra meaningful here are some DIY ideas that almost anyone can do.
Your a Star
This is one of my favorite gift ideas that I've also used for anniversaries and birthdays. All you need is a pen, some thinner colorful paper, (I use 8.5 x 11 sheet size) and your love for the person.
Step 1
Cut your paper into strips the long way, by about a half an inch in width. Each paper strip will make one star.
Step 2
On the paper strip I like to write a compliment or something I love about the person. This is where you tell them why they're a star in your life.
Step 3
Fold paper into an origami star with the writing facing inward.
Start by loosely tying the paper into a basic knot as close as you can to the side you started your sentence on.
Tuck the small end into the knot securing it.
To make the shape, wrap the long end around the flat edges. Fold the end to the opposite side, like you would tighten the bolts in a tire.
Repeat wrapping until you have about a centimeter left of the paper tail.
Take the remaining edge and tuck in the end like you did with the short end. You may need to trim the paper tail to tuck into the folds neatly.
Step 4
Repeat until you have desired amount of stars
Step 5
Find a cute container to deliver your stars to your Star!
Your Future Date Fortune
These adorable fortune "cookies" are great for predicting your future dates or hangouts. All you need is some cute paper, glue or an adhesive, scissors, and your favorite pen.
Step 1
Trace some circles about 2.5 inches in diameter and cut them out. Each circle will make one fortune "cookie".
Step 2
Cut out some strips of white paper about a centimeter in width and 3 inches in length. These will be your fortunes.
Step 3
Write a date idea on each white paper strip.
Step 4
In the center of the circles you cut out, pinch a small fold.
Step 5
Make a small tube with your paper circle with the pinch fold in the center wrapping around the tube. Make sure your fortune is lying lengthwise in the tube.
Step 6
Holding your tube closed, fold it in half making the fortune cookie shape. Glue the paper in place by placing a small amount of adhesive by the pinch fold.
Step 7 (optional)
If you would like to indicate the approximate price of each of the date ideas you can color code the "cookies", fortunes, or write the cost on the fortunes tail that sticks out of the "cookie"
Step 8
Find a cute container to deliver your cookies to your 'fortune'ate recipient.
Disclaimer: I did not invent these paper crafts but the bad puns were of my creation. I'd love to hear how your projects went below! And what was your favorite Valentines day you've received or gifted?
