When it comes to predicting décor trends I find it tends to follow fashion. By looking at Tik Tok and other cutting edge social media platforms you are able to get a well rounded idea of 2021's fashion trends. Although décor follows I would say a year or two behind fashion here are my predictions for 2022's décor.
Color
2021 had a large variety of popular colors yet there were some color trends that stuck out to me. Although I prefer texture over color they are both necessary to create a cohesive space, and color choices do tend to range depending on how you want the room to feel. I have written more on Color Theory and Color Palettes if you would like a more in-depth look into creating the perfect space for you.
Periwinkle
Pantone created a new color for the 2022 color of the year called Very Peri. Purples have made a surprising resurgence but not like how it's been before. The younger generation is bringing a light purple into the fashion world, inspired by Y2K looks. Interior designers have been mimicking this dreamy look with a slightly brighter attitude by adding in the blues.
Pastel Green
Benjamin Moore took a totally different route to the fresh look of pantone by choosing October Mist as their color of the year. They also looked to the younger generation when choosing their palette though they focused on a totally different movement within Gen-Z. Sustainability has been capturing the attention of many and inspiring people to carry this idea of valuing nature into their home. To capture the pale greens that have been giving everyone relaxing spa vibes for the last few years along with a modern edge a silver green was Benjamin Moore's choice for 2022.
Black, White and All the Grays Between
Though black and white has been in style for a while due to the minimalist movement it has definitely made it's way into fashion using bold graphics rather than sliding under the radar. Black and white check were available in every piece of clothing. As fashion was very inspired by Y2K and the 90’s this year grunge patterns have been stealing the show when it comes to black and white. Grays and off white have also been making a comeback this year. Creams and grays are perfect for the natural looks everyone's been wanting for the past few years. H&M came out with an environmentally conscious fashion line this year, almost everything in the line was a cozy cream perfect for any space.
Neons
In a strong contrast to the achromatic color palettes, neons have been making a huge comeback this year. Also inspired by Y2K fashion neons have been making up a large portion of the color palettes I've seen this year. Shockingly I have found that neons aren’t being used as an accent color but rather making up full palettes. Though this style may not be possible for some the look can easily be recreated using color changing light bulbs. Though I suspect we will be moving away from LED strip lighting lining every teens walls I do think lighting will be affected by the trend for quite some time. I would recommend looking into upgrading your light bulbs to RGB bulbs to change your ambiance to fit any trend.
